Frances Beck trained at the Glasgow School of Art, after which she was awarded a travelling scholarship, spent mainly in Italy.
She moved to London in the early sixties where she worked as a jewellery designer, later forming a partnership with Ernest Blyth. Together they exhibited widely and their work is held in a number of collections, including the Goldsmiths' Company and the V&A.
Following Ernest's death in 1995, Frances returned to painting. She now devotes most of her time to painting, drawing and printmaking. Her painting is concerned mainly with colour and form. She finds that to work in oil with its freedom and versatility is a welcome release from the discipline of jewellery design.
In recent years, Frances has exhibited in various mixed exhibitions in London and the south west.
