Introduction

After working with white clays, particularly porcelain, on a range of hand built decorative bowl forms using flowers and leaves, Sheena has recently turned her attention to sculptural ceramics.

Earthenware paperclay, a highly versatile medium, allows her to portray her interest in the ancient and the old, the worn and the torn, the fragile and the delicate. Her figures have developed from an interest in shrouds and religious figures and the quiet calm and serenity that comes with their associated ceremonial events, whether historic, contemporary or fictitious. Her figures are decorated using copper oxide with occasional spare use of copper or gold leaf. They are fired at 1150 degrees and usually mounted on slate.
