Introduction

Yorkshire based artist Debbie George has been painting since her graduation from Bretton Hall College (home to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park) in 1991.

Debbie's work as a painter is primarily concerned with still life. The paintings are simple observations, which explore the relationship between objects such as vessels, plants and flowers, and the space that they occupy. These themes are explored through mixed media, building up layers; this creates a richly textured surface from which elements of the original images emerge. There is a history evident in the way they are made, layer upon layer, unearthing signs of how they came to be, like peeling back layers of wallpaper through the ages.

Debbie exhibits her work at galleries across the UK and at a range of art fairs, including this year's New York Art Fair.
