Suzy's paintings are based on quick drawings made on the spot. These are developed into watercolours and oils in the studio, where they depart from the original landscape and evolve into an imagined world. Suzy graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in 1998 where she was tutored by some truly inspiring painters including the late Norman Adams.
Suzy has been a self-employed artist since then, having completed a year's residency for The London Business School and commissions for The Laura Ashley Foundation, Chevron UK, and private individuals. In 1998 she was awarded the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers post-graduate degree prize and, subsequently, the M&G Royal Academy Summer Exhibition prize.
Suzy moved to Devon two years ago after a break as a full time mother. Her pictures revolve around the theme of "landscape" but this is only really a starting point in which to explore the abstract concerns of colour, composition and space on a flat surface and along the way unexpected visitors enter the picture.
