Introduction

For many years, Elaine lived in the Far and Middle East. Originally a nurse, she completed a Bsc Hons. in Psychology before opting for a complete change of direction. At Hong Kong University she studied Fine Art and Interior Design and in Tokyo, Fine Art and Painting. From there she went on to Heatherley's School of Fine Art to do a Diploma in Portrait Painting before finally settling to complete her training at Winchester School of Art.

Since 1997 Elaine has exhibited regularly in solo and group shows and her work is held in private collections internationally.

Elaine is inspired by the works of Subirachs and Michelangelo and the rich imagery of mediaeval misericrods and ecclesiastical carvings. Her inspiration often derives from the realms of subjective reality and imagination rather than her observations of objective reality - a reflection of her interior vision. This is skilfully translated into her sculpture and combines easily with her use of narrative which extends her work beyond pure illustration.
